Marianna Feher

Marianna Feher (b. 1989) is an artist and organizer based between Malmö and Stockholm. Her practice is most often expressed through installation, text, sound, performance, printed matter, collaborative processes and public gatherings. By bridging research with practice, she examines how subjectivities are formed in relation to memory, belonging, language, gender, solidarity, and friendship. By investigating microhistories and fragmentations, Feher places emphasis on how narratives can question or expand beyond their fixed materiality, often by weaving together archival material, personal accounts, and fiction. This methodology echoes an archeological process – exploring the notion of site specificity, while not restricting site to a designated location, but expanding it through the notion of time and displacement. Working within this threshold, she seeks to give image and body to that which time and distance has obscured. She has previously presented projects at, among others, Index – The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation, Silent Green, Röda Sten Konsthall, Institutet, Mint, MNAC Bucharest, Heerz Tooya and Moderna Museet. Since 2020, she organizes Tentative Transmits, an artistic and archival sound platform that investigates memory politics, diaspora, solidarity practices and post-socialist transitions across and beyond Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Tentative Transmits operates as an active and living archive where artists, theorists, musicians and cultural workers are invited to create newly commissioned works for the platform or gather collectively through public programs or exhibitions. Through concepts such as hauntology, post-memory and off-modern, Tentative Transmits, together with its collaborators, seek to put the relationship of archive and narrative into question.

The archive as g/host

As part of the “For the Record” intervention, Marianna Feher from the artistic and archival sound platform Tentative Transmits will present the platform’s work, which investigates memory politics, diaspora, solidarity practices, radio histories, and post-socialist transitions across and beyond Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Drawing on selected projects, the intervention explores how Tentative Transmits operates as an active archive by commissioning new works by artists, theorists, musicians, and cultural workers while creating spaces for collective engagement through public programmes and exhibitions. Through concepts such as hauntology, post-memory, and the off-modern, Tentative Transmits and its collaborators examine the relationship between archive and narrative, approaching the archive not as a repository of fixed histories but as a site where stories are continually negotiated, contested, and reimagined.
