Nanna Balslev Strøjer

Curator

Biography

Nanna Balslev Strøjer is a curator, writer, editor, and cultural entrepreneur whose work centres on curatorial learning, institutional transformation, and collaborative knowledge production within contemporary art. Her practice moves across exhibitions, research, publishing, and organisational development, with a particular interest in interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaborations that connect artistic practice to wider social, spatial, and institutional questions.

She holds an MA in Curating from Aarhus University and a degree in Modern Culture and Cultural Dissemination with a BA in Philosophy from the University of Copenhagen. Over the past 15 years, she has worked across museums, art centres, artist-run initiatives, festivals, galleries, and independent platforms, developing projects that combine curatorial experimentation with public engagement and institutional reflection.

Nanna is the co-founder of Museum Why, a Nordic museum network exploring the future role of museums through transnational dialogue, curatorial experimentation, and collective reflection on institutional practice. Through conferences, seminars, and collaborative formats, the network investigates how museums can act as expanded social and learning spaces within contemporary society.
She previously served as Director of CHART Design, the sister fair to CHART Art Fair dedicated to collectible design, and worked as curator of CHART Social, a discursive and public programme exploring the intersections between art, design, architecture, and society.
At Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art, she curated FRI:rum, a two-year artistic and institutional experiment investigating the transformation of the institution — both in relation to its architectural development and its connection to the surrounding urban and social environment.

As curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde, she contributed to developing new perspectives for the museum as a “museum without walls,” focusing on expanded exhibition formats and new forms of audience engagement beyond the traditional institutional framework.

During her time at Gl. Holtegaard, she curated several exhibitions, including the first major exhibition to reinterpret the institution’s collection through a contemporary curatorial lens.

Alongside her curatorial practice, Nanna has taught courses in curating at Kunsthøjskolen Holbæk and works as an editor and writer. She is Chairperson of DOKK (Danish Organisation for Curators and Art Advisors) and a member of IKT.
