Satu Oksanen

Curator, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma

Biography

Satu Oksanen is a curator based in Helsinki. She currently works as a curator of collections at the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, part of the Finnish National Gallery, where her work focuses on collecting, researching and mediating contemporary art. She is interested in the ongoing negotiation between contemporary art practices, the museum’s institutional framework and the permanent collection. Collections offer a space for long-term curatorial work, and she positions her practice in between the sediments of the archive and the accumulation of new layers; exhibiting the collection and reframing the collections lies at the center of her interest. In recent years, she has collaborated with artists such as Essi Kausalainen and Alma Heikkilä on commissioning performance and installation works for the collections. Her most recent projects include the collection exhibitions and catalogues Rock, Paper and Scissors and Feels Like Home at Kiasma, which will be followed by the collection display scheduled to open February 2026 at Kiasma. She previously worked at the Helsinki Art Museum where she was involved among other things in working with the collections and their mediation, temporary exhibitions and commissions for public space. She holds an MA in Art History from the University of Helsinki. In addition, she holds a BA in Design studies.
